Zambry: MIC to keep Sungai Siput spot

SUNGAI SIPUT, Sept 3 — The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat traditionally reserved for the MIC, will be decided by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said Perak BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
He said the choice of the candidate would be decided after a discussion between the prime minister, who is BN chairman, and the MIC president.
“Perak BN has agreed to have a candidate from MIC to contest the seat. So, let’s not make any more speculation. Let’s just continue with the tradition,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri open house hosted by Sungai Siput Umno at Wisma Umno here today.
Zambry (picture), who is also Perak mentri besar, said what was important now was for BN members to work hard to ensure victory for the BN candidates in the coming general election.
On the Jalong and Lintang state seats, which are in the Sungai Siput parliamentary constituency, he said they were normally given to Umno and Gerakan.
In another development, Zambry hit out at Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who denied that the call for a change in the Malaysian flag was an agenda by the opposition.
“The opposition said they had never discussed changing the Malaysian flag, but at one time in a ceramah, he praised those who designed the (new) flag,” he added.
He described the action by the opposition as a political desperation to be in Putrajaya.
Such an action should not be allowed as it could be destructive to the country, he added. — Bernama
