Tee Yong's Talam accusations to win back S'gor? How silly - Dzulkefly tells DPM
PAS research head and Kuala Selangor member of parliament Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad has dismissed deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s strategy of using the so-called debt controversy involving troubled MCA-linked developer Talam Corporation in BN's quest to wrestle back Selangor at the coming polls.
Dzulkefly, one of those appointed by Selangor as its official spokesmen to explain the debt recovery exercise, said Muhyiddin had been misinformed by MCA's deputy minister Chua Tee Yong and BN Selangor coordinator Mohd Zin Mohamed.
Chua, the son of MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek, has been at the forefront of accusations that the Selangor state government had bailed out Talam, which was involved in a series of abandoned projects at the cost of house buyers during the BN's administration which ended in 2008.
“The people of Selangor are aware that during the UMNO-BN administration in Selangor, Talam had owed three state companies – Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd (PNSB) RM28.2 million, Pendidikan Industri Yayasan Selangor Bhd (PIYSB) RM248.7 million and Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Bhd (KHSB) RM115.1 million.
"Talam’s debt is a legacy from BN administration in Selangor, so why was there no effort (by BN) to recover the debt?” he asked.
Dzulkefly said the debt-recovery method by Selangor was legal.
“In reality, we made round tripping process involving state companies. From the point of law, this is right. That is why the Menteri Besar Incorporation (MBI) has power to demand loan repayment from Talam,” he explained.
On Saturday, Muhyiddin said the Talam 'controversy' along with the state's battle with the BN Federal government over water management could propel BN back to power in Selangor.
Dzulkefly reminded that independent auditor KPMG Transaction & Restructuring (KPMG) had cleared the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government.
