PKR will be in Johor on Friday, threat regardless

PKR will proceed with its ‘Jelajah Merdeka’ programme in Johor on Friday, in spite of a threatening call to Anwar Ibrahim's bodyguard yesterday.

Anwar and party communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad confirmed today that the bodyguard, Ahmad Fauzi Mahpab, had received a call at home from a Malay man who allegedly said: "Hello Bro, when you arrive in Johor, I will wait for you with a pistol."

Ahmad Fauzi, who has been with Anwar since 2008, said he has lodged the police report as he will be going to Johor.

NONE"Pakatan Rakyat deplores the fact that the prime minister and home minister have not condemned the many actions of Umno Youth and Perkasa. We have evidence of their involvement in (incidents in) Lembah Pantai, Alor Setar, Kota Bharu and Jasin,” said Anwar.

"While the PM has commented on the mooning and the stepping on photos - which we also do not condone - he has not said a single word about the attacks on us. It is as if we have 1Malaysia but two laws.”

Anwar urged the police to be stern in taking action on these incidents as well as the threat against his bodyguard.

NONECommenting on a Star report today, Anwar welcomed the Terengganu police investigations into obscene acts on images of Pakatan leaders.

“We see there are some professional attempts by the police to investigate. However, there are attempts being made to derogate Nik Aziz and other leaders as if there is 1Malaysia but two laws.

“In Jasin, the police arrived later to control the situation. However, in Lembah Pantai the police failed to react when pebbles were thrown ...”

Perkasa leader spotted

Nik Nazmi also claimed that Umno and Perkasa were behind the attacks in Jasin.

NONEThis is because one of the participants, Shahidan Shaharan, is a media officer in the Jasin coordination committee, as well as Perkasa Youth chief.

Nik Nazmi (right) said it is the duty of the police to ensure security during PKR’s road show in Johor.

After a stop for Friday prayers in Tangkak, the road show will cover Ledang, Muar, Sri Gading and Batu Pahat.

A mega-dinner will be held at the Sutera Mall in Skudai. PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, and leaders from DAP and PAS are expected to attend.

PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali said the Pakatan Rakyat component parties  condemn the attacks on PKR, which they deem to be attacks on them.

pas mustafa ali pc 090609"We would like to point out that before BN, there was Alliance. PAS faced the same scenario in 1969 when Umno Youth formed a gangster-like unit to disrupt our functions, causing difficulty to get our message across to voters,” he said.

“It seems that such attitudes and rough tactics by Umno have made a comeback.”

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said premier Najib Abdul Razak has described as ‘un-Malaysian’ the incidents involving teenagers at the ‘Janji Demokrasi’ rally on Aug 30.

“However, he has failed to comment on the hooliganism in Alor Setar, Lembah Pantai, and Jasin. Has he issued any statements condemning this? Why has Najib kept quiet?,” asked Lim.

“He says Malaysia wants to be the world's best democracy, but action against the opposition shows otherwise.”
