Not inviting sultan results in Perkasa's report against Selangor

Malay rights group Selangor Perkasa today lodged a police report against the Selangor government for not inviting the sultan to its Merdeka day celebration.

"Perkasa Selangor wants the police to investigate whether there was interference from outside the Selangor government that resulted an invitation not being sent to the Selangor Sultan for the state-level 55th Merdeka day celebration," the police report read.

NONEIt was filed by Selangor Perkasa secretary, Azahar Othman, at the Shah Alam district police headquarters.

"Selangor Perkasa is concerned that this will cause anger among the people because the Selangor government has neglected the rights of Malay rulers, especially the Selangor Sultan," read the report.

Also present was Selangor Perkasa chief Abu Bakar Yahaya and some 50 supporters.

The state-level celebration was held on Thursday night at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam.

Among those present at the event were Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and state economic advisor Anwar Ibrahim who is also federal opposition leader.

Abdul Khalid had defended the move, stating that it was not a norm to invite the ruler when it comes to the state's Merdeka celebrations but the Sultan's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani said otherwise.

Abdul Khalid today again defended the state's position, stating that all procedures had been adhered to in organising the celebration.
