Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein today cited malice in a news portal's report which he said had quoted him as saying the safety of the opposition in Johor could not be guaranteed.
"I said the position of the opposition in Johor cannot be guaranteed, the people of Johor will have to determine that, referring to the fact that support for the opposition rested with the people of Johor.
"However, regrettably the portal spun the story to say that the safety of the opposition conducting a road tour in Johor could not be guaranteed. That smacks of malice," he told reporters after opening the Hulu Terengganu Umno Division delegates meeting here.
Hishammuddin said the safety of the people was given top priority without any favouritism. Asked whether he would take action against the portal, he said he would discuss the matter with the Attorney-General.
He said the opposition had been practising the politics of hatred for a long time, as was evident in the recent spinning of his statement.
The opposition made use of the alternative media to influence the people, he said.
"The people should exercise maturity in considering any issue. They should study an issue in depth before making up their mind," he said. – Bernama
