BATU PAHAT, Sept 6 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein wants stern action to be taken against those who stepped on pictures of the country leadership and raised a “new” flag to replace the Jalur Gemilang.
He said the matter concerned public interest and the police were investigating the case.
“A report will be submitted to the Attorney-General for further action. If no charge can be made, we want to know why,” he told reporters after attending a function for new students at Universiti Tun Hussein Malaysia (UTHM) here.
He said stern action against those involved had to be taken as the people were angry.
Hishammuddin regarded the incident as extreme and aimed at sowing hatred for the country leaders.
He said the objection raised by the people to such an act showed that majority of Malaysians did not accept such negative culture.
“It is an act which is against our culture and upbringing. If we do not make a stand and the majority remain quiet, it will spread, and little by little, the uniqueness and privileges in the country will be eroded,” he added. — Bernama
