Ex-Customs D-G named to EC


KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah has consented to the appointment of the former director-general of Customs, Datuk Md Yusop Mansor, and former chairman of the advisory board in the Prime Minister’s Department, Abdul Aziz Khalidin, as members of the Election Commission (EC).
Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Ali Hamsa said the appointment took effect from the date they reported for duty until the age of 66 in line with Clause (3) Article 114 of the Federal Constitution.
He said the appointment of Md Yusop and Abdul Aziz followed the expiry of the tenure of service of Datuk Zainal Abidin Mat Said and Datuk Jamdin Buyong as members of the EC on September 4.
“On behalf of the government, I express deep appreciation and gratitude for the excellent services rendered by Zainal Abidin and Jamdin as members of the EC in discharging their responsibilities,” he said in a statement, here today.
Md Yusop, 59, who was born in Menggatal, Sabah, went on mandatory retirement on August 7, 2011 and had a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (Development Communications) degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Advanced Diploma (Training and Human Development) from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
Abdul Aziz, 59, who was born in Bagan Datoh, Perak went on mandatory retirement on May 29, 2011 and had a Bachelor of Law (Honours) degree from the University of Malaya.
As a legal officer, Abdul Aziz had served as federal counsel, Sessions Court judge and chairman of the Industrial Court. — Bernama
