Cops may call in Anwar over alleged bodyguard-pistol incident

Cops may call in Anwar over alleged bodyguard-pistol incident
Jasin- If the need arises, police would not hesitate to call in opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to help in the investigation of his body guard who is alleged to have withdrawn his pistol and aimed it at the public at Kampung Baru Rim, here, on Saturday.
State Police Chief, Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said that during the incident at about 3.15pm (Saturday), Anwar was travelling in the double-decker bus while the bodyguard was in a black coloured Toyota Camry, which was following the bus.
“We are also not sure if Anwar had witnessed the alleged pointing of the weapon at the public by the bodyguard or not.
“Let us investigate the matter from all angles first and if it is felt by the investigating officer that Anwar need to be called in to assist us in the investigation then we would call him to record his statement,” he said.
Chuah said this when contacted to confirm receiving the actual video footage on the incident which was handed over to the police by a blogger at the Jasin Police Headquarters at about 6pm, yesterday.
The 29-year-old man, who also is the main witness in the investigation of the alleged criminal intimidation by the bodyguard, surrendered the four-minute long video at the Jasin Police Headquarters at about 6.15pm.
“I came here to assist police in their investigations and when I surrendered the video to Inspector Muzafar Shah Zulkifli and I was told that the police must authenticate the video and then proceed in their investigations.
“I was there at the scene and I recorded what had happened. What was done by the bodyguard was a real threat. What if the pistol had accidentally been fired?
“It was a threat to me and also all the members of the public who had gathered there and this is why I came forward to assist police in their investigation of the case,” said the blogger who declined to be identified.
Earlier yesterday, Police had called in one witness to the fiasco involving the bodyguard who had in his possession a copy of the video showing the incident where the gun was pointed at members of the public.
State CID chief ACP Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said that the man was called to give his account of what had happened and how he obtained the video on his handphone at about 2pm at the State Police Headquarters.
“We are still calling those who have video of photographic evidence on the bodyguard and also on those throwing the red paint, mineral water bottles and other objects at the bus which was ferrying the PKR leaders, including Anwar,”” he said, when contacted, yesterday.
On Sunday, the New Sunday Times reported that police had detained the bodyguard after he allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at some pro-Barisan Nasional supporters.
The bodyguard who was detained by plainclothes policemen, denied pointing the weapon and anyone, was released on police bail at about 9pm, on Sunday, after being questioned for about five hours at the Jasin Police Headquarters.
Police had also seized the Taurus semi-automatic pistol from the bodyguard who has a valid licence to carry a weapon and to use it in discharging his duties.
