Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak resumed his duties today amidst claims that he was sick and soon to be replaced.
According to his political secretary Mohamad Sanusi Mohd Nor, Azizan (left) chaired the state cabinet meeting as usual.
"The MB chaired the meeting and he is now fit for duty," Sanusi said in a text message to Malaysiakini.
Officially, Azizan was warded on Aug 25 at the Kedah Medical Centre (KMC) for two weeks for observation after suffering from exhaustion and an infection.
According to PAS leaders, Azizan was required to rest in hospital due to his hectic schedule during the Ramadan month.
Azizan is believed to suffer from heart and kidney ailments, along with high blood pressure and diabetes.
There has been prolonged rumours that Azizan's health, coupled with his reported reluctance to cooperate with the party's national leadership, would result in him being replaced as the party's Kedah chapter head.
Azizan's health problems have also led to Umno and Gerakan mooting that the position of deputy menteri besar be established in order for a leader to take over his duties during the Azizan’s frequent absence.
According to Kwong Wah Yit Poh, Azizan stressed that he is still in vibrant health and able to lead the state.
